I Rest My Case – Vegans v. Meat Eaters
by Steve @ Chainmailbomb
A couple of weeks ago, I received this email. It contained a popular, but less than solid, narrative on the attractiveness of meat-eaters v. vegetarians/vegans. It even had pictures! In the interest of full disclosure, I should point out that I do eat meat.
Karan Diwan is a 51 year old TV health guru advocating a holistic approach to nutrition and health, promoting exercise, a vegetarian diet of organic fruits and vegetables. She recommends detox diets, colonic irrigation and supplements, also states that yeast is harmful, that the colour of food is nutritionally significant, and the utility of lingual and faecal examination.
Nigella Lawson is a 50 year old TV cook in Great Britain , who eats nothing but meat, butter and desserts.
I rest my case..
So you’re telling me that this woman above is Karan Diwan, a vegetarian health guru? And that she ironically looks very unhealthy, and that eating meat is much healthier, as evidenced by this photo of Nigella Lawson? As a health guru, she probably has a website, or has been featured or written about on other websites… right?
I began to look for more information, but eerily nothing could be found about ‘health guru’ Karan Diwan, with the exception of some articles & blog posts with the exact photo and verbiage featured in the received email.
So, who is Karan Diwan? Does she really exist? If so, is she really a health guru, or is she a normal every-day woman who happens to live a holistic lifestyle? Is this photo of someone named Karan Diwan? No, it’s not.
Photo of Gillian McKeith taken the same month as the photo in the email.
The woman in the photograph shown as ‘Karan Diwan’ is actually Gillian McKeith, a Scottish nutritionist, TV presenter, and writer. In 2007, the Advertising Standards Authority forced Gillian to stop calling herself a doctor over concerns of the validity of her doctorate in Holistic Nutrition. That same year, two of her products had to be pulled from the shelf for mislabeling.
I guess at least the photo is of a real person who really does participate and advocate for a holistic lifestyle, but why would they misrepresent the name? My theory is that it was an effort to minimize the possibility of other photos of this person being found, photos that may have been a bit more flattering.
The photo of Gillian sent in the email was taken right before she experienced a panic attack during the shooting of an episode for ‘I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here!’. Questioning the authenticity of this attack, the narrative of some of the sources, seems based solely on opinion.
Not only did the email feature this unhealthy looking example of Gillian McKeith, but to further support the argument that eating meat is much more healthy than not.. a photo of a beautiful Nigella Lawson.
This photo was quite old and didn’t fairly reflect her appearance at age 51, so I’ve decided to include a few more to even out the playing field. This isn’t to say that Nigella isn’t still quite beautiful, but she is now beautiful in a much larger size.
Recent photos of Nigella Lawson:

Top-ranking actress Lauren Bacall, is still stunning at age 86 while the legendarily comedic Betty White is looking the same age or younger still living an impressively active life at age 89. 24 year old reality TV personality, Deena Cortese, looking a little rough around the edges and it’s fair to say.. older than 28 year old American country singer-songwriter, Carrie Underwood. Carrie Underwood recently switched from a vegetarian diet to a completely vegan one.
Controversial former Fox television host and current radio host, Glenn Beck, age 47 alongside actor & film producer Brad Pitt, age 48. Brad Pitt is a vegan and has been described as one of the world’s most attractive men.

Nigella was featured in various newspapers in 2008 for publicly advocating wearing fur and remarking that she would love to kill a bear & wear it. Mimi, author of Live Raw, gave up meat at age 30 when she began seeing signs of age-related issues like arthritis. Mimi started a raw diet in 2008.
