Before, (and even after) the second world war, there was a lot of admiration for Japan in Ethiopia, as one of the few other parts of the world that had successfully resisted European control, and had a similar feudalistic society. The new Ethiopian constitution was modeled on that of Japan, and there were even serious plans for a marriage between an Ethiopian prince and a Japanese noblewoman.
Basically, Ethiopians were the original weebs.
