in the 80s I used to play hooky from school in westchester and take the train into the city and ride on the subway. it was sketchy but not that bad. the 70s were a lot worse i hear…
this looks like home.
nyc was more fun but also more dangerous.
interestingly, even into the late 80s there were basically ZERO national chain stores in manhattan. The few that existed were originally NYC-based anyway, like Barnes & Noble.
