I wonder if these were used tactically; so maybe they put them there and then went somewhere else, or maybe put them there so British soldiers would look for a sniper when there wasn’t one.
Regardless it seems strange to me to warn about a sniper if there actually is one; i thought the point of snipers was that they were usually unkown.
We’d better hope they held onto those signs. If a backstop agreement cannot be made by the time Britain leaves the EU, there’s a great danger of this violence returning to Ireland
Now that’s not a sign you see on the road everyday..
Is it theresa May?
The last soldier to die there was killed by a sniper.
I’m from around this area but born after the troubles. You hear all sorts of stories about IRA snipers given the nickname “south Armagh snipers”, they were known for using Barrett .50cals and other high power snipers. I’m glad those times are over, my dad has told me of how there were army road blocks to every road into my town and the likes. Interesting history we have in this part of the world.
its also funny because UK (and i assume irish) road signs signify danger using red triangles with the hazard inside them.
South Armagh was known as bandit country, basically a no go zone for the British army.
Very good of them to consider the road safety implications. Give extra space between you and the vehicle in front to allow for evasive manoeuvres or sudden veering.
Living in Ireland I do now finally understand the anti-Irish sentiments and policies in both 19th century US & from Great Britain. Those people needed to be kept in check!

Shane Cassidy was the man behind many of the IRA assassinations of British soldiers, he grew up in the town next to me back in the 80s
I’m actually good friends with one of the men who claims to have put that sign up, he has never struck me as a liar so I’m inclined to believe him. He used to go by Sean Cribben but changed his name for obvious reasons.
dont worry Brexit will bring those hard borders back no matter how many times Theresa May hears different
Can someone provide me a link to read up on the history of the IRA? I’m a college educated American and I’m embarrassed to say that I don’t know the full story. It’s not taught much in American public schools or colleges. (I went to business school though so perhaps I would be more educated on the topic if I majored in History.)
Terrorism is weird. Also, a good troubles series on HBO would be spectacular.
