Slighty off topic, I read a good book a few years back on the history of gas masks in WWI, the development of them and a bunch of cool stuff. Book was called Hellfire Boys by Theo Emery, it was a good read.

For real, you know how you test whether it’s safe to take off your gas masks after a gas attack?
Have the lowest ranking guy take off his mask an watch him for a few minutes. If he doesn’t die, it’s safe.

Imagine surviving the horrors of World War One then have to deal with the Spanish flu straight after, I firmly believe that generation must’ve been some of the toughest people in existence
