Dieter Degowski threatens Silke Bischoff with his gun at Grundbergsee rest area on August 17th, 1988. Degowski and Hans-Jürgen Rösner robbed a bank and hijacked a bus during the 54 hour Gladbeck hostage crisis. Two hostages, Emanuele de Georgi (15) and Silke Bischoff (18), were killed. [2048 x 1399]
Silke Bischoff was a trainee in a lawyer’s office in Bremen. She finished work that day an hour earlier than her friend Ines Voitle and waited for her so they could take the bus home together.
Such a remarkably sad story. The incompetence of the police, the death of a teen boy protecting his sister and the meaningless death of the 18 year old girl. It could all have been prevented, sadly.
I think one of the robbers got out in 2018 right?

He killed that lovely young woman. This is an example of why I abhor films and media the glorify economic violence.
Such a brave young woman. So tragic. Made worse by the disgusting media circus.

I am not a fan of "correcting" someone permanently. However, with documentation like this, someone should lose their right to be back in society, EVER.

On 20 November 1988, the Minister of the Interior of Bremen ,Bernd Meyer resigned over mistakes by made by the police. What a waste of life .

Wow I just read about the incident the police really screwed that up

Broke my heart when I read she was killed. I hope someone parks a .45 in his brain pan now that he’s been released

This picture breaks my heart. Fourteen year old boy, who was said to be protecting his sister, was killed in this incident due to the failure of police.
I’m guessing the unlucky lady in the picture is Silke Bischoff?

Now.
People think American police are violent.
Go watch how aggressive American police sometimes get with hostage takers.
Pretty amazing heroics.
American police would have blown that guys head off.

I wish stuff like this was blurred out. I love this subreddit but I come on Reddit to de-stress.

I’ve never heard about this. Was it all just for money? Usually this kind of stuff only happens for terrorism reasons for some political/religious reason.

She looks remarkably calm for being a hostage…
