Article about the [photograph](https://www.theguardian.com/world/2018/jan/19/deathbed-photo-of-war-photographer-gerda-taro-discovered), which was only discovered these past few days by the son of the medic treating Gerda.
This makes me sad. She was the girlfriend of Robert Capa, a colossus of war photography. [This famous photo](https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/6/63/RobertCapabyGerdaTaro.jpg) of him in Spain was taken by her (they were both covering the war). The most famous photo taken by her is I believe [this one,](https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/9/9a/RepublicanWoman1936GTaro.jpg) of a Republican Miliciana training in 1936.
[Here’s a photo of them both, in 1936.](http://i.dailymail.co.uk/i/pix/2013/11/05/article-2487682-1933DED900000578-77_634x460.jpg) Capa took some photos of her in the years before her death that are so cute it’s hearthbreaking:

They look just like the photos a happy, young couple would take today.
She died soon after, when a Republican tank crashed into the car she was on. She was the first female war photographer to be killed in the frontlines.
