Nagasaki is a beautiful city, and for centuries the only place foreigners were allowed in Japan. Thankfully, much of the city’s historical center was spared by a narrow valley deflecting the bomb’s detonation upward, though the Christian cathedral in Urakami was not so lucky – it was leveled by the bomb.
75 years ago today. It feels like old history but it was not that long ago.
