In his recent address to the Munich Security Conference in Germany, Benjamin Netanyau accused Iran of being “the greatest threat to the world”

Comparing Iran to Nazi Germany, the Israeli Prime Minister said that Iran advocates “master faith” just like Nazi Germany used to advocate “master race”.

Al Jazeera reports: Listing the countries in which he said Iran was a troublemaker, he said “nowhere is Iran’s belligerent ambitions clearer than in Syria”.

“There, Iran hopes to complete a contiguous empire, linking Tehran to Tartus, the Caspian to the Mediterranean,” he said, adding that Israel would “continue to prevent Iran from establishing a permanent presence in Syria”.

“Israel will continue to act to prevent Iran from establishing another terror base from which to threaten Israel,” he said.

“We will act without hesitation to defend ourselves. And we will act if necessary not just against Iran’s proxies that are attacking us, but against Iran itself.”

Speaking at the conference later on Sunday, Mohammad Javad Zarif, Iranian foreign minister, said “cartoonish” attacks on Iran did not deserve a response.

“Harvey Weinstein’s attorneys’ use of my (true) statement — that he was not sexually transgressive or physically abusive in our business relationship — as evidence that he was not abusive with many OTHER women is pathetic and exploitive,” the actress said, according to Entertainment Weekly.

“The criminal actions he is accused of conducting on the bodies of these women are his responsibility, and if there is any justice left in the system he will pay for them — regardless of how many good movies, made by many good people, Harvey was lucky enough to have acquired or financed,” Streep added.

The Oscar-winning actress has repeatedly claimed she did not know about Weinstein’s alleged behavior toward women, including most recently in December, after actress Rose McGowan blasted Streep for not speaking up sooner.

“You were the audience for a cartoonish circus just this morning which does not even deserve the dignity of a response,” he said.

Al Jazeera’s Hashem Ahelbarra, reporting from Munich, said the recent clashes were a serious development that could lead to more escalation.

He was referring to a confrontation earlier this month between Israel and Iran in Syria that saw the Israeli military shoot down what it called an Iranian drone over occupied Golan Heights and carry out air raids against “Iranian sites” deep in Syria.

The development resulted in the downing of an Israeli fighter jet without any casualties.

Mahjoob Zweiri, associate professor in contemporary history of the Middle East at Qatar University, told Al Jazeera that Netanyahu was “obsessed” with Iran.

“Over the last 15 years, every week he is making a statement on Iran,” he said.

“Today’s speech that compared Iran with Nazi Germany was a very strong statement. He is using the political anti-Israeli rhetoric of Iran in his argument that Iran should be reined in.”

In his speech, Netanyahu accused Iran of openly threatening to “annihilate Israel with its six million Jews”.

“Iran seeks to dominate our region, the Middle East, and seeks to dominate the world through aggression and terror,” Netanyahu said.

He said Iran was developing ballistic missiles “to reach deep into Europe and the United States as well”.

Israelis Demand Netanyahu Resignation Over Corruption Charges

More than 1,500 protesters gathered in central Tel Aviv on Saturday demanding the resignation of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu over corruption allegations.

Netanyahu’s days in office are starting to look numbered as police investigate two new corruption probes. Senior figures in Netanyahu’s Likud party have started calling him “a dead duck”, according to Israeli media reports.

RT reports: The “Bibi Netanyahu go home” slogan once again united the Israeli crowd holding their weekly anti-government corruption protest in Tel Aviv. Waving signs that read “Bibi, you are not above the law,”“Love Israel, separate from Netanyahu,” they chanted, “A mafia country and a corrupt Prime Minister.”

Earlier this month Israeli police recommended that Benjamin Netanyahu be indicted over allegations of bribery, fraud and breach of trust. Despite the pressure and daily calls to resign, Netanyahu maintains his innocence, further exacerbating the public anger.

“In the past, whenever there was an indictment recommendation with the police, politicians used to resign,” one protester told RT’s Ruptly video agency. “It’s very difficult to see Bibi resigning. He’s not the kind of [person] who resigns.”

“I came here to protest and to defend the democracy in Israel because it’s important that people will fight corruption wherever it is because the government here forgot that they need to serve us and not we need to serve them,” noted another activist present at the rally.

Police earlier announced that they gathered sufficient evidence to start legal proceedings against the premier in two separate probes – Case 1000 and Case 2000. Although the recommendations were submitted to the attorney general, it may take months before the decision is made.

Case 1000 alleges that Netanyahu, along with his wife Sara, received lavish gifts worth thousands of dollars from Hollywood producer Arnon Milchan and Australian billionaire James Packer, in exchange for favors. The other probe revolves around suspicions of Netanyahu conspiring with the owner of the top-selling Israeli newspaper, Arnon Mozes, to get a more positive coverage of himself. The Prime Minister has repeatedly denied the allegations as “baseless.”
