Wait. Did they switch in the middle of the day while everyone was driving? Would it have been a bit easier to switch in the middle of the night when almost everyone was asleep?

See that’s where they went wrong. Everyone knows that when implementing this change you alter the days, and gradually introduce it.
For example; every second Tuesday on odd months you drive on the right side of the road. Then you add in days that have the number three in it, and eventually expand this to include every day.
