Three hostages (and one of their kidnappers) being held in the vault of the Kreditbanken bank in Stockholm, Sweden, August 27, 1973 (this is the robbery that gave rise to the term “Stockholm Syndrome”) [598×590]
This podcaster interviewed one of the robbers in this episode. Pretty interesting episode.

Swede here. There is a phonecall made by one of the hostages to the primeminister of Sweden Olof Palme (he who gotshot in 1986). The whole phonecall is absurd. First that you just can call the primeminister in the middle of a hostage situation. She expresses that they have a nice time playing cards etc and the only thing she is afraid of is the police breaking in and create a dangerous situation.

I was listening to a podcast about this event and the kidnapper/robber chap involved was talking about "Stockholm Syndrome" – said that he laughs every time he hears the expression, as what happened was nothing at all like what the definition has come to mean.

Snapping pictures during a robbery? I need to go look this incident up to understand the photo!

Damn it took a while for me to find the third hostage in the picture

No wonder they started to sympathise with the guy. Those wavy blonde locks. Jesus.

Worth reading this https://twitter.com/sezmohammed/status/1252500993972948992?s=19 on the origins of the Stockholm Syndrome term. It’s not exactly sound science to say the least …

fact! a syndrome that mainly/almost mostly happens to women!

There was a really good film made based on this incident, Stockholm, starring Ethan Hawke, Noomi Rapace and Mark Strong.
