I performed this colorization from an image I found in a fascinating article by Air & Space Magazine: Link
On the night of October 19, 1917, eleven German zeppelins slowly ascended from their depots and headed toward the English coast on what was expected to be a 25-hour raid. Although hampered by British anti-aircraft guns, they managed to drop all of their bombs, killing 34 people and wounding 56 others.
When the zeppelins attempted to return to base, they ran into headwinds and fog; eight of the 11 accidentally crossed the Alsatian border into Central France (pictured here).
People have been requesting that I create an Instagram account for my work so I have here! I do take restoration and colorization commissions as well. If you enjoy the quality of my work, send me an email and I’d be happy to work on your image!

I have a couple of really stupid questions so please forgive me ahead of time.
1- What military ( or law organization) would the guy in blue with the bayonet be from ?
2- What country was the Zeppelin from ?
3- Was anyone injured ?
Thank you.

Oh, sorry, I didn’t see your previous description. Thank you kindly for the answers. I was wondering how it landed without catching fire or blowing up. It must have had a soft landing.

Zeppelins as war machines seem like something straight out of Steampunk fiction. It’s hard to believe this was a real thing once.

This is incredible. I’ve always had a fascination with airships and zeppelins, and seeing this in color from more than 100 years ago is just amazing. It’s almost otherworldly. Thanks for sharing!
