IMO the USSR invading Czechoslovakia was quite understandable. If you’re in a situation like the Cold War, where the stakes are "nuclear Armageddon", you have to maintain your network of buffer states intact. In a situation like that, the Soviets could not tolerate Czechoslovakia potentially defecting to their enemy. Same reason why the USA was so aggressive in Latin America.
