If anyone’s curious why there’s so much destruction in the background, the Confederates burned their own capital down, and destroyed vast areas of the city in the Evacuation Fire.
Strangely enough the Union helped put out most of the remaining fires when they arrived.
Personal opinion time: if anyone starts talking about Confederates being courageous point them to this. Confederate leadership knew they were losing the war badly, and surrendered only a few weeks after this. Instead of admitting defeat, they burnt their own city and fled like cowards.
