After almost freezing to death flying in an open biplane made with the help of the wright brothers, Hoxsey broke the record held by a french aviator at the time by 900 feet. Hoxsey was famed for being the first person to fly at night and for convincing Roosevelt to take a ride with him, the first president to ever leave the ground. He died in a plane crash december 31 1910 in Southern California.
