A genocide committed by one blonde haired blue eyed peoples on another blonde haired blue eyed people because they weren’t blonde haired and blue eyed enough? Humans are so weird

Sami genocide? Googling gets me just on some right wing forums and one turkish documentary. This seems like attempt to establish a narrative than pointing out historical truth.

Genocide? Please elaborate, I’ve never heard that before.

Swede here, the relationship between the Swedish state and Sami state/people has definitely not been good historically. The swedish state has commited some atrocities towards the sami people including dislocation, forced sterilisation, oppression of all their culture and in some instances there have been violence. But I don’t believe genocide is the right word for it…

I’ll copy an answer I wrote to one of those subreddits:
First of all, Sweden did treat the Sami badly, and the government should do a better job handling Sami questions. But there certainly was no Sami genocide, and there is AFAIK no Sami that claims so.
I presume "genocide" refers to the Swedish sterilization programme. While it was certainly an awful thing and a dark part of Swedish history, it was not explicitly targetted at ethnicities, but at social outcasts, the mentally ill and people with physical disabilities.
There was a comprehensive investigation regarding the Swedish sterilization programme and it could not find any evidence that the Sami were specifically targetted for sterilization.
> Sterilisering av personer angivna som samer och zigenare tycks däremot ha skett i mycket liten utsträckning; utredningsresultatet ger inte stöd för att steriliseringar var särskilt riktade mot dessa som grupper.

You’ve been obsessed with genocide recently, you good?

All four of my grandparents are from Norway so I have a very loose understanding of this and it’s the first time I have ever heard it referred to as a genocide. And my grandparents very much did not like Sweden so I’m guessing they wouldn’t have had any problem stating it like that. If I remember correctly most of their population was it in Norway and Norway does have a negative history of forceful assimilation. But I’m not sure what this post means
