Kyōichi Sawada’s photograph "Flight to safety" was awarded the 1966 Pulitzer Prize for Photography. He was the second of three Japanese photographers to receive this award. He was killed in Cambodia in 1970 at the age of 34. 135 photographers from both sides would lose their lives during the Vietnam war.
