A little background info: Ann was the daughter of [Ronald Mathias Lockley](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ronald_Lockley), a naturalist and ornithologist. In 1927, he obtained a 21-year lease of the island of [Skokholm](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Skokholm) and moved there with his wife. He studied migratory birds and eventually established the first British bird observatory. Their daughter Ann was born in 1930 and spent much of her young life on the remote island. She later wrote a book about her experiences, entitled “[Island Child – My Life on Skokholm with R. M. Lockley](https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/21253671-island-child—my-life-on-skokholm-with-r-m-lockley).”
