So much attention goes to the invasions of Normandy and Italy that it’s easy to overlook the invasion of Provence. What a crazy photo.

I spoke to my father last night about skydiving. He said "I’d never be able to do that! That’s way too intense!" I said "well I went skydiving once and it was a tiny cessna, they tell you to put your leg out on the wing then they bank turn the plane and dump your ass out, no decisions so my fear of heights had nothing to do with it in the long run."
Imagine these fucking guys, with almost no choice, being told to stand up at the door and jump the fuck out. Oh, and hope the 18 year old dude who packed the chute did it right.
Even thinking about the challenges these men had to endure gives me strength to try to pretend to be a better person. This picture is incredibly powerful.
