Couldn’t find any sources for the treatment of prisoners taken during the Soviet-Japanese border skirmishes. The only piece of info that may relate to this photo is the Soviet treatment of Japanese prisoners after capitulation in 1945. Due to having rather neutral opinions of one another Japanese prisoners received considerably better treatment than their German allies (by better I mean still a 12-20% death rate). Given the brutal treatment other Allied POWS could expect from Japan, I would assume not very well.
