Alright, we realize it is tempting we have to ask people to refrain from making comments referencing modern politics and events.
Feel free to discuss the historical aspect of this photo but leave the easy to make unoriginal jokes and internet slap fighting to other parts of reddit.
Thanks!

I wonder how many of those people were left alive in 1945.

It would be great to get some transcripts from the meeting to compare to today. Or newspaper articles about it even
As a note, Antifa’s primary opponent was not the Nazi party but the Social Democratic Party (SPD). Antifa was part of the KPD, who teamed up with the Nazis in the 30’s.

And thanks to Soviet influence they didn’t get any chance to oppose Hitler in any way.

This OG Antifa was a paramilitary organization of the Communist Party that fought against the paramilitary organization of Nazi Party (SA) but primarily against the Social Democratic Iron Front as they saw the Social Democrats as the biggest fascist due to their weird view that they are the "main pillar of the dictatorship of Capital".
The Social Democrats and their Iron Front was the only organization that fought the three big anti-democratic threats of the Weimar era: Communists, Monarchists and Nazis.

We need more pro-democracy paramilitary groups.

Did they also go about rioting and looting small businesses?

These early German anti Fascists were supporters of Joseph Stalin and as such were complicit in the Gulag slave labor/death camps, and in the Holomodor, which saw millions of Ukrainians starved to death over the course of a few years.

While it’s of course nice with anti-nazism and all, it should be noted that Anti-Fascistische Aktion was founded by the German Stalinist KPD party which had a fluid definition of "Fascism".
For instance, they allied with the Nazi party in the Prussian elections of 1931 to topple the Social Democrats.
