About 300 thousand Armenians died, as many Armenians found refuge in Europe and Russia. Zeytun was one of the few Armenian regions where Turkish troops were forced to retreat.
In the photo on the right, Yehisabet Sultanyan is the great-grandmother of rock musician Derek Sherinyan.
