I’m at work now, imagining what it’s like for those guys when that elevator gets stuck on the way up. Every day I remind myself to be grateful to all the workers in history whose suffering and deaths motivated the improvements in working conditions that have benefited (many/most of) us in recent decades & centuries.

It’s amazing how much humans can adapt to different conditions. I can’t imagine how horrible that would be based on my cushy 21st century idea of “normal”. If I was stuck doing that day in and day out I would pretty seriously consider suicide. I guess that’s why the church preached eternal damnation for suicide.
