Posting this in regards to Capt. Crozier being relieved of command by the US Navy after trying to get support against coronavirus infections on the USS Theodore Roosevelt. After the letter to his superiors was made public, he was dismissed and is now being attacked publicly by government and military officials. Wikipedia: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brett_Crozier
Billy Mitchell made public his belief that air power was going to need to be embraced after his experiences in aviation after World War I and recognition that naval power was vulnerable to air attacks. His passion caused enough embarrassment for military officials that he was court-martialed and demoted in the mid 1920s. As it turned out, he was right. Coincidentally, the first US air strike on Japan occurred on April 18, 1942, four months after the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor, by B-25 medium bomber airplanes led by Jimmy Doolittle in what became known as The Doolittle Raid. This bomber was nicknamed the "Mitchell" after Billy Mitchell when it went into service earlier in 1941. Wikipedia: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Doolittle_Raidhttps://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/North_American_B-25_Mitchell This attack proved that air power made possible what naval power alone would not be able to accomplish.
