_RarkGrames_: Why was there a statue of lenin there?
sparkiegizmo: Recently I returned from my two year stint in Ethiopia as a Peace Corps Volunteer. I learned quite a bit about the country’s history while there.
Remnants of the former regime are still visible today. The currency hasn’t even changed from the Derg take over. The 50 cent piece features a socialist workers “diversity package”. A Doctor, soldier, farmer, factory worker, and scholar are featured. They all with their equipment ready at hand to pave the wave for a brighter Ethiopia.
Where formerly Haile Selassie, the renowned Rasta icon, was featured in every form of their currency;the common laborer took his place.
