I’ve been to the airborne museum at Hartenstein. And there are plenty of amazing pictures there to see and it’s so interesting about the way they used to fight. How the whole operation went down

For the uninitiated, Market Garden was an absolute disaster for the Allies, the Airborne units especially and the British Airborne units doubly so. They ran smack into the elite SS Panzer divisions and the Allied armor was stuck behind bridges blown by the retreating Germans.

Has there ever been any quantifiable evidence on what advantage the US had using a semi-auto rifle as standard issue (M1) vs almost everyone else using bolt action rifles?
Realize the picture is of US allies, but from what I understand most of the Axis was using bolt action for standard issue.

The Bren (left) was still in use with British Airborne Troops up to 1985 and it turned up in it’s LMG nom de Guerre even later world wide.
