Chairs and wreckage outside the Cocoanut Grove nightclub in Boston, scene of the deadliest nightclub fire in US history. November 29, 1942 [1047 x 800]
Following this fire, new fire safety laws were created to prevent another such tragedy including: all revolving doors need flanking exit doors, revolving doors must fold when under pressure, exit doors can’t be locked to prevent exiting in an emergency, exit signs must be clearly visible and lit, and exit doors must swing outwards.
The outrage from the fire was the spark for establishing fire safety code that would become ubiquitous worldwide.

My grandfather had to help carry the bodies out. He said they were left at the train station in caskets for days while they waited to ship them out to the families. He got drafted 3 months later and his ship was kamikazed and he had to again help clean up the bodies

492 died. That’s like 3x Oklahoma city bombing and 1/6 of 9/11.
