Sisters L-R: Maria, Tatiana, Olga, Anastasia Others L-R: Alexandra, Alexei, Nicholas 102 years ago today they were murdered in a cellar room of the Ipatiev House in Ekaterinburg. During the first round of shooting, Nicholas and Alexandra were killed whilе Maria was shot in the leg. After a short pause to allow the smoke from the guns to clear, Tatiana and Olga were shot after feeble attempts to bayonet them. Maria and Anastasia were bayonetted for a while longer before eventually being shot. Alexei was killed in the same way, though apparently sustained more bullet wounds. As the bodies were being removed, one of the sisters (it’s unknown exactly which) began screaming but was quickly shot in the head bу one of the men carrying her. Maria and Alexei, initially buried separately from the rest of the family, were discovered in 2007, nine years after the rest of their family had been reburied in St Petersburg. They haven’t been reunited with their family due to the Orthodox Church’s refusal to believe the DNA tests proving their identity.

Trivia about the photo: Tatiana is wearing a wig here. Earlier in the year she contracted typhoid and had to have her head shaved so her hair, which had been falling out, would grow in evenly.
