Commander of the U.S. Army’s 5th Special Forces Group: Colonel. Robert Rheault, upon return to the U.S. after being found not guilty (due to lack of evidence) of ordering the premeditated execution of a Vietnamese man who turned out to be a double agent for Communist forces (1969) [588 x 405]
The soldiers involved were prosecuted due to the persistent recommendation of General. Creighton Abrams (commander of all U.S. military forces in Vietnam, 1968-1972) who was known to hold a hatred of paratroopers and Special Forces (and apparently, American football half-backs).
The case was dismissed because (info declassified not too long ago) the body was thrown into deep water off the coast of Vietnam. This was not known by the court at the time so there wasn’t any good evidence to put up.
Also good to know: the popular catch-phrase "terminate with extreme prejudice" originated from this event, as the CIA, upon finding out of Thai Khac Chuyen’s (the spy) loyalties, advised for his death using this phrase.
