Dan Carlin’s Hardcore History – Ghosts of the Osfront – opens with him describing the endless fields of bones that still exist outside of Stalingrad (Volgograd) and other battle sites. Absolutely chilling. It’s been a few years since I’ve listened to it, but I remember him describing a trip to Russia and his guide showing him the fields of bones. I believe he relates it to monuments and why we build them.
