That’s awesome. There are actually some interesting books and articles on the history of photography. “Nature Exposed” by Jennifer Tucker is a great book that follows the development of photography in tandem with modern science in the 19th century and discusses how photographs came to be equated with fact. This is a great book to learn about both the technical development of the camera as well as how it was used over time. “Human Rights in Camera” by Sharon Sliwinski discusses how photographic evidence of brutality raised international sensitivity to, among other things, the brutality of Imperialism in regions like the Congo. Often times we regard 19th century photographs as sources, a look back in time, but it’s easy to overlook just how crucial photography was in helping people in the period understand the world around them.
