Isn’t that when Reagan freed a bunch of US college students from their dorm who hadn’t known they’d been captured yet?

Story about Grenada. I joined the infantry in the early 90s. When I was at my first assignment, our 1SG was a Grenada veteran from the Ranger Bn. My exposure to Grenada had been limited to a Saturday Night Live sketch mocking the invasion. This is a transcript of the sketch since I can’t find a video:
Basically it was a take off of the old Time Life series joking about Grenada. Book 1: the invasion. Book 2: what they did the rest of the day.
That had created the impression to me that Grenada was a joke.
So back to me being new and a private in the infantry and in front of this very very very grizzled and angry 1SG. This day he asked if we had any questions and I, thinking I’m a funny guy, asked him if when they went to Grenada if he had jumped with his golf clubs instead of his weapon.
Well. I found out that day that for the Rangers, Grenada wasn’t a joke and they did some actual work there and the 1SG did not find me to be very amusing at all. That day was one of the worst days of my life and taught me a lesson about thinking you are funny vs. actually being funny and how humor is in the eye of the beholder and if the beholder is an angry 1SG, you should keep your mouth shut.
