Guatemalan elected president Jacobo Árbenz is ordered to strip in front of the cameras by airport authorities before leaving Guatemala for exile, after being deposed by a U.S. backed coup. September 9, 1954.[533×678]
Every time the US interferes with other countries it does so to secure it’s financial interests, in this case bananas. There’s always an excuse, first it was communists then it was terrorists.

good old merican government. disposing of people that won’t do their bidding since the 1950s no less!
chrome-spokes
The coup occurred courtesy of the Dulles brothers, (one was Director of the CIA, the other United States Secretary of State), and both had personal ties with the United Fruit Co, (now Chiquita Banana).
Lousy conditions of workers for United Fruit made it ripe for labor organizing. Which the U.S. then blamed on communists in Guatemala. Which was never proved.
And many think corporatism controlling government policy is a new thing.
