Hiro Onoda. Was an Imperial Japanese army intelligence officer who did not surrender in August 1945. Onoda spent the next twenty nine years holding out in the Philippines. Only when his former commander had traveled from Japan to personally relieve him from duty in 1974 did he surrender. (540 x 303)
