Sorry for my ignorance but what’s a bootlegger in this context?

Looks like a sign that a bootlegger would have….

That’s exactly what a bootlegger would say…

It’s almost as though there’s been a trend of law enforcement using violence against people when it’s not strictly necessary…

My grandfather told me the story of his ownership of a Lincoln Roadster he bought in the 1920s that apparently was previously owned by bootleggers. He said he would get pulled over at least twice a week and one time the police disassembled the car so much looking for booze he couldn’t put it back together again. From his stories the 20s and early 30s were a wild time.

Assuming that’s painted by hand, that’s some damn fine lettering. This guy could have gotten a job in comics

Whenever I see similar photographs with people holding decades-old signs, I’m amazed at the quality of penmanship! I feel like there were a lot of graphic designers making signs. Not to say there aren’t amazing ones I see from current protests, but more often than not they can be a little sloppy compared to this.

Died shot by the police. In his car, from behind
