Credit is due to the person who colourised this photo, u/ColourizedHollywood. The job he did bringing it to life is beautiful, doing amazing credit to an iconic image.
Some context for the picture
>A LCVP (Landing Craft, Vehicle, Personnel) from the US Coast Guard -manned USS Samuel Chase disembarks troops of Company E, 16th Infantry , 1st Infantry Division (the Big Red One) wading onto the Fox Green section of Omaha Beach ( Calvados, Basse-Normandie, France) on the morning of June 6, 1944. American soldiers encountered the newly formed German 352nd Division when landing. During the initial landing two-thirds of Company E became casualties.
That’s why these guys are named THE GREATEST GENERATION EVER!! They are the reason we have the word FREEDOM!
The hill is steeper and higher then it appears from the distance of this (excellent) photo.
I can only imagine the fear these man had in that exact moment.
