Jewish dervishes Agha-Jaan Darvish and his brother, patriarchs of the Darvish family. Tehran, Iran, c.1922. The two Jewish dervishes pictured here in this rare photograph are among the very few who had successfully been integrated into the order without converting to Islam.
Damn. Did not know there were Jewish dervishes. Thanks for sharing.

Nigel gave me a drawing that said 18 inches. Now, whether or not he knows the difference between feet and inches is not my problem. I do what I’m told.

I went to Konya and saw the Dervishes in action (although it’s a bit of a tourist spectacle) and it was v. cool.

This looks like a heavy metal album cover. I can see these guys on stage:
‘How’s it going [city we’re playing in] make some noise! We’re the Jewish Dervishes and the next one is called: ‘By the blood on my axe’, let’s get that pit going!"

Oh man i’m a sucker for obscure Judaica. If anyone has further reading please let me know

I wonder if their surname helped them in becoming dervishes?

What did their slider look like?

They look like they’re from a bad 70s sci-fi movie.

I read this as "Dwarvish" and was so confused for a second.

Had to look up dervish. I had heard of a “whirling dervish“ before, but I never really knew what it meant.
