Freed by the US Army in 1945, a lot of these people died right there next to the train when they got out because they were so starving they couldn’t move

Why do people dont believe in the holocaust. I mean it clearly happened

I can’t even begin to imagine what the mother in the picture is feeling, to think that at any moment you might be separated from your child and never see them again. The relief must’ve been beyond words.

Use your senses vs just trusting headlines. These people look far too well dressed and healthy to be POWs.

Wow that one on the back left looks like a walking skeleton.

I’m reading Mans Search for Meaning at the moment. It describes the concentration camp life in gruesome detail and the psychology of the prisoners. Highly recommended reading for anyone interested in learning more about Jewish prisoner life.
I got a chance a few years ago to talk to a Jewish American WWII veteran whose unit liberated a concentration camp when he was a teenager… I encourage all young people to talk to and interview people who fought in WWII and were even alive during this time while you can. They won’t be around for much longer. Once they die, their stories and their experiences will die with them.

Jesus you’d think some of these people would smile more. Show some gratitude!!

This is clearly a shop. If you look at the little girl’s right arm it blends with the woman’s pants behind her in a distorted way around where her bicep would be. Clothes don’t do that.

Can’t even imagine the swirl of emotions going through these women’s heads. Elation from being freed from certain death, uncertainty about what kind of world awaits them, hell they were found by a group of American soldiers so who knows if they were nervous about a group of armed men who speak a language they don’t understand standing before them in the middle of the woods

There’s a really wonderful [background story](https://flashbak.com/the-true-story-of-the-holocaust-train-rescued-from-the-heart-of-darkness-friday-april-13th-1945-416548/ ) behind this picture.
