To be noted Louis Ferdinand went against the family tradition of immediate military service the moment he was old enough. He was instead fascinated with engineering from an early age and went to the United States to study; befriending Henry Ford and FDR along the way. He was recalled when his elder brother refused the title of Heir apparent to Wilhelm III and once back in Germany, went into the German aviation signing up for the Luftwaffe as a pilot instructor. After the death of his brother during the Battle For France and the unexpected outpouring of grief for his death by the German people, Hitler decreed no nobility would be permitted to serve in any capacity and stripped Louis Ferdinand of his rank. Shortly after he became more and more outspoken against both the war and the Government, to the point where he was picked up by the Gestapo and interrogated after the July 20 Plot. He was released without charge.
