Kathrine Switzer been pulled back by men trying to stop her from finishing the Boston marathon in 1967. She was the first ever woman to cross the marathon fishing line. [734×430]
Quite the ordeal for so many involved tried to stop her yet it was only officially allowed in 1972 where women could register and run that race.

This is disgusting. I can’t believe guys were doing stuff like that almost into the 70’s. Ridiculous.

It was actually one of the race organizers, Jock Semple (man in all dark clothing), who was trying to rip her number off her back. The other racer in this image was defending her (as well as other racers one of whom was her boyfriend Thomas Miller).

1967 actually feels far too recent for this kind of bullshit! I’m honestly at a loss as to why you would care about a runner’s gender.

First women’s marathon Olympics was LA 1984.
