Klaus Hornig, former kapo in Buchenwald having been beaten up by inmates, is doing the Nazi salute while photographied by Lee Miller. Buchenwald, Germany. April 20-25, 1945. [524×600]
> A prisoner (Klaus Hornig) giving the Nazi salute from a prison cell
However, it seems the Klaus Hornig described in this link isn’t the one depicted here, since there’s no mention of him serving as kapo.
Dominique Natanson’s website (in French) described the picture as such:
>The photo was taken between 20 and 25 April 1945, after the liberation of the camp. The kapo has a black eye and seems to have been molested. By provocation, when the American photographer Lee Miller comes on to photograph in his cell, he makes the Hitler salute.
I have no idea of the context that photo but I’m not going to judge anyone who saw a possibility of an elongation of their lives. It is estimated that they only by exceeded the average of prisoner survival rates by 3 months.
