Not sure who took this photo, I imagine it’s not Ernest Withers. But he is someone worth looking into. And was often with Wilson.

Just the other day I saw a story about the guy who beat up John Lewis during the civil rights era coming forward in his old age to say he’s sorry, and he regrets what a racist ass he was. I commented that I see photos like this here on this sub a lot and wonder if any of those people ever saw that light. So we know at least one did. Hopefully some of those in this photo did too.
I can see grandpa with the photo album, "Kid, that was your grandad being hateful and stupid when he was younger. Don’t you be that way, don’t make the same mistakes I did."

I believe this is from a series of moving photographs by Will Counts that was on display at the Little Rock National Arts Center for awhile a few years ago.

To openly hate another human being like that how do you sleep at night. If you lie that you believe in a god and can do that. Then you belong to nothingness

He never fully recovered from this attack and died a few years later in 1960. It’s crazy to think how recent this was, the children integrating Central High School are in their 70s-80s.
