During WWII Mao did his best to ensure that Communist armies didn’t engage Japanese as much as Kuomintang’s did. It let them save troops & ammunition which helped during the next Civil war.
I wonder what China would look like today if Kuomintang didn’t lose…

I feel like if people understood history better this would have a lot more upvotes. Absolutely nuts to see these two dudes looking at each other like this. Mao had Chiang beaten back to Taiwan what like nine months later.
And it’s not like the communists weren’t fighting with the nationalists during the Japanese occupation, just less.
