Old woman complaining (and looks like begging for something) to Austro-Hungarian Emperor Charles I during his visit to small town of Labin in Istria (now Croatia), WW1, 1918 [1100 x 1091]
Since this was in Istria i highly doubt this old woman knew German, so she probably spoke heavily accented Croatian or Italian, so even if emperor spoke those languages (he probably learn at least something considering he was emperor of such a diverse multi-national empire) i highly doubt he understood her much.
Considering this was 4th year of brutal war she probably had sons or grandsons serving in army somewhere on the front so she probably begging emperor to stop the war, she seems desperate.

It fascinates me that they’re from both extremes of their country.

I don’t think she’s begging, just trying to be respectful and polite while telling him he needs to start doing his job properly before she tans his hide. Your majesty.

Title gore. She could be beseeching him to end the war. She could be urging him to kill some ethnic group she despises. She could just be paying her respects to royalty. Why make up the facts in a title when you don’t have a clue what she was saying to him.

Old woman? I have it on good authority she’s 34 (pre-Croatian) years old! Times were tough then!

My Grandchildren, they never write or come by. Please, punish them!

yeah I think.. judging by other officer-looking type of people acting those conversations were not long one maybe just simple greeting or show of respect or something.

Blessed Charles loves all peoples of the empire.

This old woman probably begs him to stop the war or asks if he knows where her dear ones are, what front they are on, are they still alive? More information on https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Italian_front_(World_War_I)
