On 11 May 1945, the Sudeten German civilians who inhabited Volary (present-day Czech Republic), are forced by US troops to walk past bodies of 30 Jewish women, who were starved to death by German SS troops in a 300 mile (500 kilometres) death march. [2240 x 2792]
Yeah, show them what they ignored for all those years!

Disdain on the face of the medic closest to the line is palpable

Two guys in front clearly just don’t give a damn. I’m still under the impression the majority of Germans knew and just ignored it.

For the younger kids in the photo, how much, if any did this viewing change their thinking for the future? The old men look like they don’t care…

In defence of the older men they look stern and uncaring , probably , because they’ve been dragged from their homes by an occupying army and forced to look at dead bodies by heavily armed , shouting soldiers . The dead women had been marched there by the SS shortly before and died because of their mistreatment . It was not the local people who did this , nor was there a camp nearby for all to see and , perhaps , know about . These same old men might shortly have been subjected to war crimes themselves when the Americans pulled out . They were certainly expelled from their ancestral homes because of their ethnicity . There’s two sides to every story .https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Volary

Clearly the different Allies had different reactions to coming into contact with German civilians . What the Russians did is well known and not very nice , but they had good reason to hate . The Americans seem to have done a bit of this displaying moral superiority . I’ve seen a few photos of US troops making civilians look at dead bodies . Does anyone know if the British did anything similar , or did they have another characteristic behaviour ? Genuine question .
