On this day 20 years ago (25 July, 2000) Concorde crashed at Charles de Gaulle airport in Paris, France. Marking an end to the supersonic flight era[1000×675]
It never made any sense to stop supersonic flight. Every other type of plane crashes and stays in use (except finally the 737 Max).
The crash was caused by FOD, not an inherent issue with the design.
What people chose to keep or throw away rarely makes sense.

This did not end supersonic flight. Flights resumed after fleet modifications and finally ended in 2003 after 9/11 reduced demand and predicted maintenance costs rose beyond acceptable following Airbus’s decision to end replacement parts supply.

IIRC Concord was doomed anyhow. It was unprofitable and could never fly over land routes, due to the sonic boom damaging windows (which happened in Ireland when the Concord flew over them apparently)

Sucked living near Dulles back then, would shake our windows and I remember the teacher would have to stop talking when it took off.
