“One Minute Before the Start” Sep. 16th 1893. This historic photo document the “rush” for new homesteads in the 225 mile long, 58 mile wide “Cherokee Strip” between southern Kansas and Oklahoma Territory. [1755 x 1197]
To this day, Oklahoma is known as the "Sooner State" because some settlers came early and clandestinely and were thus nicknamed "Sooners."

My 3x Great Grandfather was a part of the Land Rush of Oklahoma in 1889. As an architect, he designed several buildings in Guthrie, OK that still stand today. His name is Joseph Foucart. Great picture!
