Many resistance fighters tended to wear german equipment as they were able to raid weapon/clothing stores in and around the city.
“…the German Stahlhelm (steel helmet), often adorned with a red and white brassard to prevent friendly fire, became a symbol of the Warsaw Uprising, as every partisan wearing one symbolized a dead German occupier it was taken from.”
*Such* a heartbreaking piece of history – the brave Poles sold down the river by the Russians and murdered by the Germans.
