Just a thought, but this is most likely after December 1865, because the smallest children wouldn’t have been working the field like this, next to their parents, because presumably they would be sold off to other families, sometimes as early as 3 years old. Sadly especially the boys.
This is probably afterwards, when former slaves were obliged to now “earn” their upkeep by working, which meant the entire family would have to work the fields just to stay alive. The time period after 1865 for former slaves who didn’t migrate to the North was a backbreaking extremely difficult lifestyle.
If Lincoln had lives, I believe southern reconstruction could have saved our country 100 years of civil unrest. There were strict consequences planned for southern states who decided to ignore the Federal Government on exactly how former slaves were to be treated, and because we didn’t get to put the plan into action, we instead had Andrew Johnson, who wasn’t strong enough to stand up against the South. He wanted to pardon the confederate generals, and water down restriction as much as possible, in short, he was a dick.

Thank you! Where did you find this?

I am uneducated about slavery, and did not know the children picked cotton too.

I mean no offence, but Jesus Christ, seeing small children being forced to do labour too makes it that much worse.
