Even though I understand why they felt they had to get weapons to resist against government, I can’t see them having any chance against a more numerous, trained and armed military.

for anyone who didn’t know, south korea was essentially a revolving door of quasi-fascist military dictatorships up until this point. their leadership during the korean war and subsequent partition heavily consisted of men who had previously collaborated with imperial japan against their own people.
